Alpes Lasers SA is a Swiss company specialized in the development and fabrication of advanced light sources in the infrared (IR) spectral range. Our company was founded 24 years ago and was the first company in the world to commercialize Quantum Cascade Lasers. These lasers are becoming increasingly important in gas sensing applications based on IR spectroscopy as they can be designed to target many molecular absorption lines.

Our company services, sells, fabricates and develops external cavity tunable devices based on its Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology as a segment of the multiplicity of products being offered. This product integrates mechanical parts, electromechanical parts such as voice coil, optics parts such as lenses, mirrors and gratings as well as QCL gain material.

Your role :

This is a one year post doctoral project aimed at developing a voice-coil based QCL external cavity system that may be extended based on results and business activity. Answering directly to the the product owner in collaboration with the R&D department and the management of the company, you will be responsible for the development of a voice-coil based external cavity system, including its optical design as well as its alignment methodology and automation. You will study the trade-offs related to the use of QCLs and the resulting ways to optimize the cavity with the laser. You will implement the solution and accompany it to the fabrication including collaborating with the IT team to assure its interfacing.

Your activities in details:

    • Optics and mechanical design;
    • Prototype parts procurement followup and assembly;

    • Test setup construction, improvement and qualification;

    • Performances, construction and usage optimization;

    • Documentation, project management and stakeholder communication.

Your profile:


  • PhD degree in photonics, physics, mechanics, microtechnology or
    equivalent;

  • Experience and interest in optics;

  • Knowledge of industrial fabrication and constraints;

  • Experience in planning, project management and fabrication economics;

  • Good communication skills in heterogeneous environment;

  • English level B2;
